OBJECTIVE
Create a series of 3 image manipulations using Photoshop that incorporates the elements of COLOR & TEXTURE, and uses Typography as an overall focal point in the completed images. |
Directions
Combine one of your favorite songs (lyrics & song title) with a large photo of the musician/band. You could also create a photomontage, combining multiple photos, etc. The photo can have effects or filters applied, color manipulations, could be black & white, add gradients, or other changes from the original. You decide on what manipulations or changes you want to make in the image.
Please focus on using the Elements of Design - Color and Texture stand out in the work! Typography should be a focal point in the completed images.

Step 1
Use the Web and find a LARGE size image of a musician - around - 1600 X 1200 pixels. Save this and then open it in Photoshop.
Original large (1600 X 1200 pixels) John Lennon Image (Black & White) very graphic looking

Step 3
Find a Song by that artist or band to use. In this example I choose the song “Imagine” for the lyrics. Find the song lyrics on the web then Copy them. MUST BE APPROPRIATE FOR SCHOOL PLEASE. NOTHING INAPPROPRIATE AND NO CURSE WORDS!!!!
Open Microsoft Word and Paste in the lyrics. The text might look something like this:

Remove any formatting and then press backspace after each line to get the song lyrics to look like this, and then Copy this text
Step 4
In Photoshop, select the Type tool. Click in the image, holding down the mouse button and draw a big box covering the entire photo. Edit Menu > Paste to paste in the text from Word.
You might have to backspace the text a little bit here as well if it doesn't look like the one below.
* A font in ALL CAPS in a BOLD or Heavy Weight Font works best for this part

Step 5
Keep Pasting the song lyrics so they fill over the entire face and change the Layer blend mode (Overlay) used to combine face and song lyrics.
When you are done, LOCK this layer before moving to the next step!

Step 6
The word IMAGINE (the song title) was typed out in one text box at large size (between 300pts. - 500pts.) using white, a different font and layer Opacity set to 57%.
Step 6
To finish the image I copied the Background Layer (Ctrl + J)
And then I changed the Layer Blend Mode to Linear Burn as well for a different look.
Finish the images by adding textures using lower Opacities and different Layer Blending modes to incorporate these textures with a subtle look on top of your imagery
